Weighing a contract offer against waiting after 11 years as a machine operator

I got a contract offer for 11 months as a machine operator and I am unsure whether to accept. Any experience at all would help. I would gain recent experience. Did a contract become permanent?

Keep everything in writing and save the confirmation numbers. It made the follow-up calls so much easier.
