Weighing a contract offer against waiting - 9 months and counting

I got a contract offer for 5 months as an insurance claims processor and I am unsure whether to accept. I worked as an insurance claims processor before this. The contract could extend. Did a contract become permanent?

Keep everything in writing and save the confirmation numbers. It made the follow-up calls so much easier.
