Weighing a contract offer against waiting - 11 months and counting

I got a contract offer for 9 months as a dental hygienist and I am unsure whether to accept. I have been trying to stay organised about it. The contract could extend. Did a contract become permanent?

I took a contract and it converted after four months. The time also kept my skills current.
