They asked my salary range, what should I say? (update)

I do not know whether to give a range or ask for theirs. I am in Dallas, in case local advice matters. I looked up ranges in Dallas and they vary a lot. How do you research fairly?

Thanks for writing this out. I went through something close to it 10 months ago, and it got easier once I kept a simple log of every call and form.
