They asked my salary range, what should I say?

I do not know whether to give a range or ask for theirs. There are 4 people counting on me, so I am trying to be careful. I do not want to price myself out. Does giving a range hurt?

Thanks for writing this out. I went through something close to it 12 months ago, and it got easier once I kept a simple log of every call and form.
