Temp-to-hire offer, worth it? - what worked for you?

I got a contract offer for 17 months as a payroll clerk and I am unsure whether to accept. I worked as a payroll clerk before this. I have 11 months of savings left. Did a contract become permanent?

Keep everything in writing and save the confirmation numbers. It made the follow-up calls so much easier.
