Temp-to-hire offer, worth it? - what worked for you?

I got a contract offer for 12 months as an electrician's helper and I am unsure whether to accept. I have read a lot of threads here and could not find my exact situation. I have 14 months of savings left. Did a contract become permanent?

Keep everything in writing and save the confirmation numbers. It saved me later.
