Temp-to-hire offer, worth it?

A permanent role may come up, but the contract starts now. I would rather hear the honest version than the polite one. The contract could extend. How did you handle benefits?

Keep everything in writing and save the confirmation numbers. It made the follow-up calls so much easier.
