Temp-to-hire offer, worth it? - any advice?

I got a contract offer for 17 months as a retail manager and I am unsure whether to accept. It has been weighing on me all week. I would gain recent experience. Did a contract become permanent?

If savings are low, I would accept and keep applying. You can leave for a permanent role if one appears.

I took a contract and it converted after four months. The time also kept my skills current.
