Temp-to-hire offer, worth it? - any advice?

I got a contract offer for 16 months as a machine operator and I am unsure whether to accept. There are 16 people counting on me, so I am trying to be careful. I have 4 months of savings left. What would you do?

Thanks for writing this out. I went through something close to it last year, and it settled down once I kept a simple log of every call and form.
