Temp-to-hire offer, worth it? - any advice?

A permanent role may come up, but the contract starts now. There are 12 people counting on me, so I am trying to be careful. The contract could extend. What would you do?

Keep everything in writing and save the confirmation numbers. It made the follow-up calls so much easier.
