Temp-to-hire offer, worth it? after 12 years as a medical assistant

A permanent role may come up, but the contract starts now. I have read a lot of threads here and could not find my exact situation. I have 7 months of savings left. What would you do?

Ask about extension likelihood and whether the team has hired contractors before.
