Temp-to-hire offer, worth it?

I got a contract offer for 13 months as a software tester and I am unsure whether to accept. I have 11 months of savings left. How did you handle benefits?

Keep everything in writing and save the confirmation numbers. It made the follow-up calls so much easier.
