Salary expectations: how do you answer? - first time posting

I do not know whether to give a range or ask for theirs. I would rather hear the honest version than the polite one. I looked up ranges in Buffalo and they vary a lot. How do you research fairly?

Keep everything in writing and save the confirmation numbers. It made the follow-up calls so much easier.
