Salary expectations: how do you answer? (Boston)

I have been out of work for 14 weeks and feel pressure to accept less. I do not usually post, so bear with me. I looked up ranges in Boston and they vary a lot. Does giving a range hurt?

Keep everything in writing and save the confirmation numbers. It saved me later.
