Salary expectations: how do you answer? - any advice?

I have been out of work for 12 weeks and feel pressure to accept less. I looked up ranges in Minneapolis and they vary a lot. Does giving a range hurt?

Keep everything in writing and save the confirmation numbers. It saved me later.
