Salary expectations: how do you answer? - any advice?

I do not know whether to give a range or ask for theirs. There are 8 people counting on me, so I am trying to be careful. I looked up ranges in Pittsburgh and they vary a lot. Does giving a range hurt?

I gave a range based on local postings and said I was flexible depending on the whole package. They did not push back.
