Salary expectations: how do you answer? after 15 years as a welding apprentice

Sam Haddad · 2026-04-21T01:11:14.696Z

A recruiter asked for my salary expectations on a first call as I look for work as a welding apprentice. I am in Chicago, in case local advice matters. I looked up ranges in Chicago and they vary a lot. How do you research fairly?

Benefits matter too. A slightly lower rate with better coverage was better for me.
