Salary expectations: how do you answer? - 3 months and counting

I have been out of work for 4 weeks and feel pressure to accept less. I do not usually post, so bear with me. I do not want to price myself out. Does giving a range hurt?

Keep everything in writing and save the confirmation numbers. It made the follow-up calls so much easier.
