Salary expectations: how do you answer? - 14 months and counting

I do not know whether to give a range or ask for theirs. I am in Detroit, in case local advice matters. I looked up ranges in Detroit and they vary a lot. How do you research fairly?

Asking about the range for the role first worked for me. Some recruiters share it.

Keep everything in writing and save the confirmation numbers. It saved me later.
