Salary expectations: how do you answer? - 12 months and counting

A recruiter asked for my salary expectations on a first call as I look for work as a home health aide. I worked as a home health aide before this. I looked up ranges in Detroit and they vary a lot. What did you say?

Keep everything in writing and save the confirmation numbers. It saved me later.
