References when my manager was laid off too - first time posting

The company closed and I am not sure how to reach former colleagues. I would rather hear the honest version than the polite one. A colleague offered to vouch for me. Who did you use?

I kept a note of my results so my references could be specific. They appreciated it.

A client reference worked well for me. It shows you deliver outside the company too.
