References when my manager was laid off too - any advice?

The company closed and I am not sure how to reach former colleagues. This is my first time dealing with any of this. I have one former client who liked my work. Who did you use?

Keep everything in writing and save the confirmation numbers. It made the follow-up calls so much easier.

A client reference worked well for me. It shows you deliver outside the company too.
