References when my manager was laid off too after 5 years as an electrician's helper

I worry a reference will only confirm dates of employment. HR only confirms titles and dates.

I kept a note of my results so my references could be specific. They appreciated it.

Keep everything in writing and save the confirmation numbers. It made the follow-up calls so much easier.
