References when my manager was laid off too - 9 months and counting

I worry a reference will only confirm dates of employment. It has been a long 8 weeks. HR only confirms titles and dates. How do you ask politely?

Keep everything in writing and save the confirmation numbers. It made the follow-up calls so much easier.

Use a professional network to find a former manager. Many will still write a note.
