References when my manager was laid off too - 13 weeks in

Kenji Mercer · 2026-06-29T04:01:49.472Z

My manager was laid off too and I am unsure who to use as a reference. It has been weighing on me all week. HR only confirms titles and dates. How do you ask politely?

Keep everything in writing and save the confirmation numbers. It saved me later.

I kept a note of my results so my references could be specific. They appreciated it.
