Pivoting from medical assistant to something new (update)

After 8 years as a medical assistant I am thinking about moving into a different field. There are 8 people counting on me, so I am trying to be careful. I have good customer skills and I am comfortable with spreadsheets. Has anyone made a similar move?

Try a small project in the new field before committing. It told me a lot about whether I would enjoy it.
