Pivoting from mechanic to something new after 18 years as a mechanic

My layoff made me rethink whether to stay in my field. It has been weighing on me all week. I have good customer skills and I am comfortable with spreadsheets. Has anyone made a similar move?

Keep everything in writing and save the confirmation numbers. It made the follow-up calls so much easier.
