Negotiating pay when I have been out of work (Raleigh)

I have been out of work for 23 weeks and feel pressure to accept less. There are 4 people counting on me, so I am trying to be careful. I do not want to price myself out. Does giving a range hurt?

Check several sources for pay in Raleigh, then pick a range where the low end is one you can live with.

Benefits matter too. A slightly lower rate with better coverage was better for me.
