Negotiating an offer, is it too late? - what worked for you?

It is the first offer in 4 months and I do not want to mess it up. Any experience at all would help. The hiring manager was friendly and open.

Most employers expect a short conversation. Mine did not even blink.

Ask about the range, not a number on its own. It felt more collaborative.
