Negotiating an offer, is it too late? - what worked for you?

I received an offer as an IT help-desk technician and I think the pay is a little low. The hiring manager was friendly and open. Did you negotiate?

Most employers expect a short conversation. Mine did not even blink.

Ask about the range, not a number on its own. It felt more collaborative.
