Negotiating an offer, is it too late? - any advice?

I received an offer as a teaching assistant and I think the pay is a little low. I worked as a teaching assistant before this. I have a competing interview next week. What wording worked?

Ask about the range, not a number on its own. It felt more collaborative.

Most employers expect a short conversation. Mine did not even blink.
