Negotiating an offer, is it too late? after 18 years as a bookkeeper

I received an offer as a bookkeeper and I think the pay is a little low. This is my first time dealing with any of this. The hiring manager was friendly and open. Did it backfire?

Keep everything in writing and save the confirmation numbers. It saved me later.
