Negotiating an offer, is it too late? after 17 years as a teaching assistant

It is the first offer in 13 months and I do not want to mess it up. Any experience at all would help. The hiring manager was friendly and open. Did it backfire?

Keep everything in writing and save the confirmation numbers. It saved me later.
