How much room is there after an offer? - what worked for you?

I want to negotiate but I am afraid they will withdraw. I am in St. Louis, in case local advice matters. I have a competing interview next week. Did you negotiate?

Most employers expect a short conversation. Mine did not even blink.

If they say no, consider asking for something else, such as a review in six months.
