It is the first offer in 13 months and I do not want to mess it up. I am in Kansas City, in case local advice matters. I have a competing interview next week. What wording worked?

Most employers expect a short conversation. Mine did not even blink.

Ask about the range, not a number on its own. It felt more collaborative.
