How much room is there after an offer? - what worked for you?

I received an offer as a school bus driver and I think the pay is a little low. I am in Richmond, in case local advice matters. The hiring manager was friendly and open. Did it backfire?

Ask about the range, not a number on its own. It felt more collaborative.
