I want to negotiate but I am afraid they will withdraw. I am in Toledo, in case local advice matters. I have a competing interview next week. Did you negotiate?

Ask about the range, not a number on its own. It felt more collaborative.

If they say no, consider asking for something else, such as a review in six months.
