How much room is there after an offer? after 8 years as an accounts payable clerk

I received an offer as an accounts payable clerk and I think the pay is a little low. The hiring manager was friendly and open. What wording worked?

Keep everything in writing and save the confirmation numbers. It made the follow-up calls so much easier.
