How do I handle a long gap on my résumé? - what worked for you?

I have been out of work for 2 months and worry about the gap. There are 16 people counting on me, so I am trying to be careful. I am not sure how much to explain. How did you handle it on your résumé?

I was hired after a 2-month gap. The manager said the skills test mattered more than the dates.

Thanks for writing this out. I went through something close to it last year, and it settled down once I kept a simple log of every call and form.
