How do I handle a long gap on my résumé? - what worked for you?

I took time out to care for a family member after working as a dental hygienist. This is my first time dealing with any of this. I have done some volunteering and a course during that time. Did anyone get past it?

A short, honest line such as 'family caregiving' is enough for most employers. They mostly want to know you are ready now.
