How do I handle a long gap on my résumé? (update)

I took time out to care for a family member after working as a nurse's aide. I have been trying to stay organised about it. I am not sure how much to explain.

I was hired after a 4-month gap. The manager said the skills test mattered more than the dates.

A short, honest line such as 'family caregiving' is enough for most employers. They mostly want to know you are ready now.
