How do I handle a long gap on my résumé?, retail manager here

I took time out to care for a family member after working as a retail manager. Any experience at all would help. I have done some volunteering and a course during that time. What do you say in interviews?

I was hired after a 6-month gap. The manager said the skills test mattered more than the dates.

A short, honest line such as 'family caregiving' is enough for most employers. They mostly want to know you are ready now.
