How do I handle a long gap on my résumé? - first time posting

My résumé shows a gap from a layoff and some health issues. I have read a lot of threads here and could not find my exact situation. I have done some volunteering and a course during that time. Did anyone get past it?

A short, honest line such as 'family caregiving' is enough for most employers. They mostly want to know you are ready now.
