How do I handle a long gap on my résumé? - first time posting

I have been out of work for 8 months and worry about the gap. I am nervous about being filtered out. How did you handle it on your résumé?

I was hired after a 8-month gap. The manager said the skills test mattered more than the dates.

A short, honest line such as 'family caregiving' is enough for most employers. They mostly want to know you are ready now.
