How do I handle a long gap on my résumé?

I took time out to care for a family member after working as a production planner. There are 8 people counting on me, so I am trying to be careful. I am not sure how much to explain.

I was hired after a 13-month gap. The manager said the skills test mattered more than the dates.

Keep everything in writing and save the confirmation numbers. It saved me later.
