How do I handle a long gap on my résumé? after 6 years as a customer-service rep

My résumé shows a gap from a layoff and some health issues. It has been weighing on me all week. I have done some volunteering and a course during that time. Did anyone get past it?

A short, honest line such as 'family caregiving' is enough for most employers. They mostly want to know you are ready now.
