How do I handle a long gap on my résumé? after 4 years as a mechanic

I have been out of work for 3 months and worry about the gap. I am in Omaha, in case local advice matters. I am nervous about being filtered out. How did you handle it on your résumé?

A short, honest line such as 'family caregiving' is enough for most employers. They mostly want to know you are ready now.
