How do I handle a long gap on my résumé? after 3 years as a school bus driver

I have been out of work for 14 months and worry about the gap. This is my first time dealing with any of this. I am nervous about being filtered out. Did anyone get past it?

I listed the volunteering and course under the same dates and kept the explanation to a sentence in the cover letter.
