How do I handle a long gap on my résumé? - 5 months and counting

My résumé shows a gap from a layoff and some health issues. I do not usually post, so bear with me. I have done some volunteering and a course during that time.

Thanks for writing this out. I went through something close to it last year, and it settled down once I kept a simple log of every call and form.

A short, honest line such as 'family caregiving' is enough for most employers. They mostly want to know you are ready now.
